Congrats to all our riders!
Judge’s Feedback on Cowboy Dressage Orange show - February 2022:
"For the most part, horses were nicely behaved and willing to do their job when asked, despite certain arenas being rather challenging to navigate. It was also really good to see that the horses were in good condition and there were no obvious indications of spur marks or sore mouths, although these would have been difficult to see on the videos. Also rider weight to horse ratios were pretty well suited."
The common errors seen were:
Generally, the transitions could be clearer, such as the differences in the two walks and two jogs.
Accuracy: Most of the riders do not know how to ride a circle, be it 10m or 20m. Circles were square, 20m circles were too big and some rode totally inaccurate execution of certain movements.
Rein-backs, on the whole, lacked balance, fluency, regularity and even steps. They were stuck or resistant or both. Only a couple of these were well ridden.
The same holds for the turns on the forehand and haunches.
The majority of horses judged could be more active and forward, demonstrating greater balance, cadence and rhythm. This would also help to create clearer transitions.
Some riders could pay more attention to their posture and hands.
Riders need to familiarize themselves with correct dress code.
Ways to improve...
See blog "Cone Confusion…" for info on how to ride circles.
